This will be the third attempt at a television series, the world of Cruel Intentions (1999)
Plot
After a tumultuous incident at their elite college, stepsisters Caroline and Lucien decide to maintain their power and fame by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. A direct-to-video sequel to Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), in which Amy Adams replaces Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil, it was originally a scripted TV series before being adapted into a feature film.
It follows the film Cruel Intentions (1999)
Gellar later reprised her role as Kathryn in the 2016 NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series. With the exception of Sara Silva, who played CeCe, all of the actors are terribly well-cast.
I wouldn’t say they’re not decent actors
To say that the acting was brilliant is an understatement. But the main characters were definitely not suited to these roles.
It’s not a completely different story
The story was decent, and while it’s understandable that these aren’t the same characters as the original movie, they’re loosely based on them. Certain scenes were copied from the original, like Caroline kissing Annie.
Lucian was meant to be a sexy character like Sebastian was, but whether Zak Burgess was the right look and actor for the role is lost on me
Sara Catherine Hook, who played Caroline, did a decent job as the slut, but like Zak and Lucien, she wasn’t exactly “sexy and seductive.” It would have helped if we hadn’t used the title Cruel Intentions for the show, but regardless, these actors and actresses just missed the mark.
