Therefore, my expectations from this version were low
Plot
Seventeen-year-old Maya marries a fisherman Yanne against her will. Your life on Stormskäret is full of trials and failures. As a fisherman’s wife, she has to fend for herself and take care of her family when her husband is at sea. The TV series based on this story was released in 1975 and became a masterpiece.
How wrong I was!
They said that this is the modern Maya of our time. Perhaps they will change the whole story? A part of the film in the middle could probably be shortened a little, but the rest of the film was perfect. Mine here was completely different than 49 years ago.
She was also more playful
She was stronger and happier, and she had a better sense of humor. I don’t know what kind of woman the real Maya was (yes, there was a real Maya and a real Janne!), but I think she must have been very similar to this Maya. The actors who played Maya and Yanna were great. Some key walls in this version were very different from the 1975 version, but they were no less touching.
In 1975, they could not do this
One of the most touching episodes of the 1975 version was longer and more detailed here, and made a bigger impression on me. Director Tiina Limmy added details that literally surprised, but added to the beauty of the film. There was one wall where I really wondered what the director was thinking. This particular scene was one of the brightest in the entire film, so Limmy knew what he was doing!
The budget probably wouldn’t allow it
In my opinion, all the walls that were excluded in the new version did not damage the story in any way. The events that moved me the most when I saw the series in 1977 were all in this version – different, but still very strong.
