Plot
In 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film on a rural Texas farm, but when their reclusive, older hosts caught them in the act, the team found themselves fighting for their lives. Day After X (2022) South of the Southwest premiere, writer/director Ti West revealed that he wrote a prequel, Pearl (2022), during a mandatory two-week COVID-19 quarantine in his New Zealand hotel before production began on that film. He asked lead actress Mia Goth if she wanted to stay in New Zealand and shoot “The Pearl,” and she readily agreed.

Decent slasher, but does not deserve a 96% RT rating
The kills felt pleasantly cheap and honestly, everything was great. I expected to be paranoid or anxious, but I felt nothing. I spent most of the film hoping it would improve or surprise me a little, but we’ve seen all this before.
